Wet shaving gives the best quality shave there is......

Wet shaving ABC's:shaving

Mens shaving is an important part of men’s grooming routine as today more and more men of all ages pay close attention to the way they look. One of the latest trends in mens shaving is a return to the old fashion wet shave.

Disposable razors can never give men that nice, good looking shave. On the other hand, many men discover that traditional wet shave is actually the best quality shave they can get.

Wet shave tools:

Good genuine badger hair shaving brush.

First of all, you need a good shaving brush. The best shaving brushes are made of badger hair. You can buy one for $25 and up. We don’t recommend shaving brushes made of boar hair as they are stiff, prickly and not nearly as comfortable on your face.

Good shaving brush with combination of hot water and cream will deliver nice, thick and emollient lather. It would be impossible to create such a lather only using your fingers alone. Additionally shaving brush re-generates your skin as it gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. It’s the best preparation your skin can get before the actual shaving.

Finally, as your whiskers are lifted upright by up- and -down brushing, it maximizes whisker’s length for blade as it moves along your face.

How to use a shaving brush:

Fill your sink with hot water and soak your brush for 1 – 2 seconds. Place good quality shaving cream on the tips and move it up and down your face and neck to create thick lather.

Recommended shaving brush:

Any of the Vulfix models, as they are excellent quality and very reasonably priced. /www.classicshaving.com/page/page/800550

Get rid of all disposable razors and get high-quality razor.

Why? If you want a perfect wet shave, you need to get the classic double-edge safety razor. Anything less is just too hard on your skin and creates all the shaving problems you have. Just try it and you’ll be very surprised what a good razor shave can do for you!

A DE razor is the way to go. Your father and grandfather as well as JFK and John Wayne used the DE classic. You get close and enjoyable shave and get rid of all redness and burn sensation on your face and neck.

DE razors and good shaving brush address many problems for men, including African-American men as well. When you get a shave bumps, switch to DE razor immediately. Start with our recommended shaving brush to gently exfoliate your skin and condition the whiskers. This method and good tools cut even the toughest whiskers properly so there are no more bumps and skin irritations.

Recommended razors for good wet shaving

With all the interest in old fashion wet shaving, DE razors are high in demand as well. German company Merkur, offers extremely top-quality and precision made razors. Our top pick is Merkur HD “ Hefty Classic” because of its reasonable price and excellent quality. www.classicshaving.com

Warning: when you switch from disposable or multi blade cartridge system (f.e.Mach3) to this single blade DE, you need to re-learn proper razor use. It means very careful strokes and guiding razor without pressing down. It’s very precise and very sharp tool. So again - No Pressing Down! Lighter touch with DE results in a closer shave and great looking skin. Of course, it takes a few nicks during your first shaves. But once you give it a try and figure it out, you will wonder what were you doing with all these disposables before – definitely not shaving……

Good quality shaving cream or soap For a good wet shave you need a good lather, even a “great” lather, which of course means good quality shaving cream. It also needs to contain ingredients like clays to keep high water content in so all that beautiful lather can actually soften your beard. Yet another different ingredients need to provide superior slip, so your razor can glide along your handsome face, instead of scrapping it and causing the irritation. Therefore, a good-quality, glycerin based shaving cream is the final important ingredient for your perfect wet shave.

Recommended shaving creams With your new brush and razor, it’s time to switch from creams and gels that come in a can for a fine English shaving cream as well. Many men already enjoy the best shaving creams that are made for centuries by the Europeans. And of course, a little goes a long way as these luxurious creams (in quality not in price) last for months of every day shaving. Our top picks Trumper's violet made by Geo F. Wet Shaving Guide:shaving

Take a nice morning hot shower. Keep your face as wet as possible when out of shower. Well hydrated face is the key to the wet shaving. Fill the sink with hot water and let your brush soak in. Take your brush out, hold it upside down and let most of the water drain. Apply shaving cream all over the wet tips. Now the fun part.

Paint your face up and down and keep it for a minute. You need to develop nice thick lather all over your shaving area. You can place your brush handle-down on the counter and get your razor.

Always shave your face and neck downward – with the growth direction of your whiskers. Use short, smooth strokes and wash off excess shaving cream frequently. Up-to-Down strokes shave your face without the skin irritation. Run your fingers over your face to find missed spots, wet again with warm-hot water and finish your shave. Most mens skin is too sensitive for a Down-to-Up shave. But if you want closer shave and you can deal with redness and sensitivity, wet you face and apply shaving cream again. Then very gently move upward against the grain (direction you whiskers grow). Just be very careful and gentle.

After Shave:

Rinse rest of the shaving cream and entire face with cold water. It will also close off your pores. Rinse your shaving brush and store it on its handle so it can air dry. This way it can last you for another 20 years.

Dry your face gently and apply good quality non-alcohol after shave or moisturizer.
